Broadway has significantly boosted New York City’s economy, contributing $21 billion in revenue last season, according to a report from the Broadway League. This contribution supports over 114,000 jobs in the city. The revenue largely comes from “Broadway Tourists,” non-city residents who consider shows a key reason for their visit.
These tourists accounted for over 80% of Broadway’s financial impact, generating approximately $12 billion in ancillary activities such as lodging and food, which marks a 22% increase since 2019.
Broadway recorded $1.91 billion in revenue last season and welcomed14.6 million attendees.

The costs to produce and operate a Broadway show have risen by 39%, influenced by inflation and increased production material costs. The average musical ticket price for the 2026 season was lower than in the 2025 season, potentially squeezing producers’ margins.
